La Compagnie Les Clowns est une compagnie de clowns, de contes et de théâtre, qui aime intégrer d’autres arts dans ses créations : marionnettes, musique live, vidéo, danse.

Elle propose des spectacles vivants, interactifs et immersifs, ainsi qu’un travail d’accompagnement artistique pour soutenir d’autres artistes dans leurs projets.

Notre mission

Libérer le potentiel créatif et humain de chacun·e, pour permettre la réalisation de soi et l’épanouissement des autres.

Elle se décline en deux axes : soutenir les artistes pour briller dans leur art et créer des spectacles et des stages accessibles à tous.

Les créations artistiques

Les spectacles de la Compagnie Les Clowns naviguent entre arts de rue et arts de scène. Leur intention est de privilégier un accompagnement holistique de l’artiste, à travers le jeu d’acteur et le clown sensible, vulnérable et authentique.

Avec plus de 25 ans de recherche théâtrale, clownesque et pédagogique, la compagnie relie créativité, poésie, imaginaire, développement personnel et quête du plaisir. En ce moment, un spectacle de clown-théâtre : l’incroyable aventure du roi Emir et un conte initiatique pour enfants : Carotte et les secrets des émotions pour bientôt !

Transmission et pédagogie

La transmission occupe une place centrale dans le travail de la compagnie. Les ateliers, actions culturelles et pédagogiques invitent adultes et jeunes à explorer l’art du jeu sensible et minimaliste, l’écriture contemporaine et autobiographique, et l’importance des limites, imperfections et vulnérabilités.

L’objectif est d’offrir à chacun·e une liberté d’être à part entière, sur scène comme dans la vie.

Istvan Van Heuverzwyn – Artiste, clown, metteur en scène et coach

Depuis l’âge de 12 ans, lorsqu’il a découvert le théâtre d’improvisation, Istvan Van Heuverzwyn n’a jamais quitté la scène. Après une école de management (ESCP), il suit sa vocation : devenir comédien. Il se forme auprès du mime Marcel Marceau, à l’école Jacques Lecoq, puis au jeu de l’acteur avec la méthode Stanislavski.

Il joue dans une dizaine de films et pièces de théâtre, explore le clown au Samovar et à Madrid avec Gabriel Chamé. Son clown, Emir, est né lors d’un stage avec Ami Hattab.

Depuis plus de 20 ans, Istvan enseigne, met en scène et accompagne artistes et non-artistes avec passion pour la pédagogie et le partage. Il a travaillé comme directeur d’acteurs, assistant metteur en scène (opéra, théâtre, comique) et a créé plusieurs spectacles : El Número (clown-tango), Un défilé de mode et L’incroyable aventure du roi Emir. Son prochain projet : un conte initiatique pour enfants sur la gestion des émotions, Carotte et les secrets des émotions.

Depuis 2018, il dirige un organisme de formation (Qualiopi – ICPF-PSI) et intervient en entreprise comme auprès d’artistes, mêlant théâtre, clown, Communication NonViolente et Régulation Émotionnelle pour développer confiance, présence et intelligence émotionnelle.

Son approche est holistique : au-delà de la technique scénique, il s’agit d’oser sortir de sa zone de confort, rencontrer l’inconnu et s’accueillir avec bienveillance. Pour lui, la présence scénique transforme chaque geste et regard en une vibration capable de toucher l’autre et révéler l’artiste en chacun.

• Son travail s’enrichit également de collaborations précieuses : depuis plus de 20 ans, Carmelinda Bruni accompagne et produit ses créations avec fidélité et exigence. Cécile Rist a contribué à la mise en lumière de L’incroyable aventure du roi Emir, en accompagnant sa création avec sensibilité et exigence. Murielle a participé à plusieurs créations, notamment le conte La voie du thé, joué en Inde comme en France. Ces complicités artistiques nourrissent profondément la vie de la compagnie et donnent aux spectacles une assise humaine et collective.

Who are we ?

Compagnie Les Clowns, directed by Istvan, is a clowning, storytelling, and theater company.

After a 12-year hiatus, Istvan and other multidisciplinary artists will return to the road for artistic adventures with the clowns at the end of 2022.

The company’s artistic approach

The creations of Compagnie Les Clowns are a blend of street and stage arts. The intention of the company’s artistic creations is to privilege sensitive, vulnerable, and authentic clowning and acting.

Through contemporary theatrical writing and 25 years of clowning and educational artistic research, the company aims to link creativity, poetry, imagination, artistic and personal development, and the quest for pleasure. Transmission through cultural and educational actions also supports this search for encounters by questioning adults and young people. Contemporary writing and clowning come together to highlight the art of sensitive, minimalist acting and autobiographical writing. The actor-performer and the clown will share their being and their vulnerability so as to inspire the audience to do the same. They will play with their own limits, confronting their imperfections and mistakes in the present moment. The quest of this play is to find freedom of being in its own right and to offer it to the audience.

With over 25 years of theatrical, clown, and pedagogical exploration, La Compagnie Les Clowns connects creativity, poetry, imagination, personal growth, and the joy of play. Current projects include The Incredible Adventure of King Emir, a clown-theatre performance, and an upcoming children’s tale Carrot and the Secrets of Emotions.

Istvan Van Heuverzwyn – Artist, Clown, Director, and Coach

Since the age of 12, when he first discovered improvisational theatre, Istvan Van Heuverzwyn has never left the stage. After graduating from a business school (ESCP), he followed his true calling and became an actor. He trained with mime artist Marcel Marceau, at the Jacques Lecoq school, and in acting through the Stanislavski method.

He has performed in numerous films and plays, and studied clowning at Le Samovar in Paris and in Madrid with Gabriel Chamé. His clown character, Emir, was born during a workshop with Ami Hattab.

For over 20 years, Istvan has taught, directed, and coached both artists and non-artists with a passion for pedagogy and sharing. He has worked as an actors’ coach, assistant director (opera, theatre, comedy), and has created several productions, including El Número (a clown-tango show), A Fashion Show, and The Incredible Adventure of King Emir. His next project is a children’s tale on emotional awareness: Carrot and the Secrets of Emotions.

Since 2018, he has run a certified training organization (Qualiopi – ICPF-PSI) and works both with companies and artists, combining theatre, clowning, Nonviolent Communication, and Emotional Regulation to develop confidence, presence, and emotional intelligence.

His approach is holistic: beyond stage technique, it is about daring to step out of one’s comfort zone, to meet the unknown, and to welcome oneself with kindness. For him, stage presence transforms every movement and gaze into a vibration capable of touching others and revealing the artist within.

His work is deeply enriched by long-standing collaborations: for over 20 years, Carmelinda Bruni has faithfully and rigorously supported and produced his creations. Cécile Rist helped bring The Incredible Adventure of King Emir to life with sensitivity and precision. Murielle has contributed to several projects, including the tale The Way of Tea, performed both in India and France. These artistic partnerships profoundly nurture the company’s spirit, giving its productions a strong human and collective foundation.

What drives him: revealing both the human being and the artist, supporting the arts, and helping every person become fully themselves on stage and in life.

Istvan Van Heuverzwyn

A professional actor, trainer and coach, Istvan has been teaching clowning for over 20 years, and conducting research into the contribution of clowning to artistic, professional and personal development. He began training in 1994 with mime Marcel Marceau, then at the Jacques Lecoq school. In 2007, he perfected his skills at Le Samovar, then spent 6 months with Gabriel Chamez in Madrid, and took part in training courses, notably with Ami Hattab, where the name of his clown was born: Emir. For 12 years, he devoted himself to personal development and worked as a trainer, before returning to clowning with Fred Robbe in 2020. He has staged several shows and clown acts: El numéro, a clown-tango show, Un défilé de mode and, at present, « L’incroyable aventure du roi Emir »… He is also André Riot-Sarcey’s assistant for Les 7 clowns sur un fil and directs plays such as La Voie du thé, an initiation tale that has been performed in France and India. He continues his research into the rules of clowning and how clowning can support artistic and human development.

Développement personnel et engagement artistique et social : Quel choix faire ?

Avoir un impact sur la société avec un clown axé sur le développement personnel est-ce que ça suffit ?Il est important d’aborder la croissance individuelle sur le plan individuel émotionnel, psychologique, et spirituel car c’est le socle du changement social.

La première étape de notre travail aborde la résilience et l’acceptation de soi et de l’autre et nous invite à développer ses compétences émotionnelles et accepter ses ombres.

Prendre soin du bien-être de chacun et du groupe, est un aspect important du travail du clown et également la première étape d’une société plus équilibrée et émotionnellement en paix.

Au-delà du clown au service du développement personnel, l’engagement social est important en éveillant la conscience collective, mais comment ? Sensibiliser à la relation au pouvoir que chacun a, favoriser la tolérance en prônant l’acceptation de la différence, la résolution de conflits et la gestion de nos propres émotions.

La proposition de la Compagnie les clowns invite à réfléchir ensemble et à agir pour laisser de côté notre relation au pouvoir. Elle propose une exploration profonde des dynamiques sociales et individuelles liées au pouvoir. Elle investit aussi la relation à la solitude, pour la dépasser et s’offrir au monde, d’une autre manière.

Comment peut-on s’engager ? Cette question-là, je me pose depuis 25 ans…Un spectacle engagé ? On démarre cet engagement avec un premier spectacle à travers L’incroyable aventure du roi Emir . Nous partageons les premières réflexions sur le pouvoir grâce à cette aventure clownesque unique, où le rire et l’action se rencontrent pour espérer un changement significatif dans nos relations au pouvoir. C’est un bon début…
